Foreign Language Institute

1. Introduction

Foreign Language Institute (FLI) is one of other faculties of University of South-East Asia, which enriches knowledge, know-how, and skills in foreign languages from lower to higher education level. The courses provided by FLI include general English programs, general Chinese programs, English for specific purposes, English for specific purposes, English for Academic Purposes, professional development courses, diploma in English, Associate of Arts in English, Bachelor of Arts in TEFL, and Master of Arts in TESOL. Doctoral degree programs will be offered in the future

Foreign Language Institute is envisioned to become a nationally and internationally recognized school of foreign languages that forms professional attitude, advances professional knowledge and skills, and builds future of resilient graduates who will continue to learn and thrive in environments of complexity, ambiguity and change.

3. Mission of FLI

Foreign Language Institute is committed to educating technical skills, soft skills, and professionalism, which allow graduates to well function in the global economy.

4. Program Objectives

This program is designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills in teaching English and general and theoretical knowledge necessary for employment in relevant professional fields and further university studies. The program improves the students’ macro-skills in English language: reading; writing; and listening and speaking, and teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and problems solving skills required in today’s classrooms.

5. Program Learning Outcomes (PLO)

After successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

5.1 Knowledge

  • Acquire general knowledge about Cambodia and the world:
  • Obtain comprehensive knowledge of reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current educational theories, concepts and principles;

5.2 Cognitive Skills

  • Apply various teaching methodologies to teach English from Starter to Advanced level with confidence;
  • Develop appropriate teaching methodologies and assessment strategies for students from a diverse range of backgrounds;
  • Reflect on their practice and experiences;
  • Apply information communication technology for professional work, academic study, and research, and in teaching

5.3 Interpersonal Skills and Responsibility

  • Demonstrate professional attitude, confidence, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills in a wide rang of professional settings;
  • Show initiative, innovative, creativity and leadership skills in various settings;
  • Successfully engage in a process of continual improvement and pursue a further university degree;

5.4 Communication Information Technology and Numerical Skills

  • Effectively apply information and computer technology and numerical knowledge in interpreting information and proposing solutions to problems and issues;
  • Communicate in English and Khmer effectively both orally and in writing.
